PLASTICS
Plastic has been one of the most broadly used during the 20th Century. In fact, if we look around us we can easily find this material in common objects.
This unit is addressed to Tecnology students in 3rd ESO. It will include 6 class sessions and it will be taught at the beginning of the second term.
The specific objectives of the unit will be:
- Learning the knowledge and ability to manipulate the materials in a sefe way
- Learning what a aplastic is.
- Getting to know how to distinguish between a plastic and a polymer
- Getting to know how to classify plastics
- Getting to know the ways to obtain plastics
The class program will be as follows
First:
The teacher will give a brief introduction about plastics, their importance, obtention and recycling.
Then, students will read a text aloud (the teacher will correct pronuntiation mistakes, rhythm, etc)
Second:
We will dedicate this session to the obtention and formation of plastics, so we will watch the following video:
Molding is one of the many existing techniques. Perhaps, this is the most representative one to form plastics. Besides, the teacher will explain how we can obtain objects such as bottles, films, windows, etc
Third:
The third session will be dedicated to the recycling of plastics. First, students will watch the video
which is about recycling of plastics in particular. The teacher will make students aware of the necessity of separating plastics.
Fourth:
In this session, we will make a practical experience about how plastics are separated through density.
Fifth and sixth:
We will do exercises as those described on the didactic unit and the exam preparation.
